Is it better to work in a Public or Private Hospital as a doctor in Australia

  • Hi,

I am an Irish doctor who is appyling for jobs in Perth- there are jobs available in private and public hospitals.
Just wondering are there any other doctors out there who know of any advantages or disadvantages to either?

    Thanks

  • public or private

private = less hours and more pay but depending on the hospital public may offer better opportunities depending on your areas of interest. i.e the majority of emergency medicine and treatment of the sickest is done in public hospitals whereas the private hospitals do mostly elective day surgery. So split shifts etc and floating rosters in public and normal day hours in private but less variety and more routine surgeries in private
