Taxation

To finance the public service infrastructure Canada’s residents pay a combination of federal, provincial and municipal taxes. The revenues generated are used to pay for services such as transport, healthcare and education.

Income Taxes

In Canada, pretty much everyone pays some sort of tax. The most common are federal and provincial income taxes. For 2005, the tax rates can be found at the Canada Revenue Agency  website.

Employment Insurance (EI)

In case of job loss at no fault of your own, Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) is the governing body for allocating support payments (unemployment benefits). Go to the HRSDC website  for more information.

Canada Pension Plan (CPP)

Every employee that during his/her work life contributes to the federal pension plan is eligible for pension payment in retirement. Information here: www.sdc.gc.ca/en/isp/cpp/cpptoc.shtml .
