The Finnish telecommunications market

Introduction

Finland's telecommunications infrastructure is ranked as one of the most sophisticated in the world. Traditional fixed land lines are modern and supported by a high specification.

Finland also has efficient and extensive coverage from a variety of mobile phone networks.

Half of Finnish households have already abandoned fixed home lines in favour of mobile technology. SMS usage in everyday tasks such as reserving a doctor's appointment is common; cell phone parking and mobile check-in have been around since 2001.

Finland is regarded as having a widespread and excellent web network as well. Whilst Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are not generally cheap, service is very reliable and unlimited download limits at high speeds make the system efficient and fast.
